Niagara IceDogs goaltender Chris Festarini has turned his Ontario Hockey League career around this season (story, page 41). Here's a quick look at how Oakville's other OHLers are faring this year. Ben Fanelli, D, Kitchener Rangers (32 games, 1 goal, 6 assists, +10) Fanelli is hands down the OHL comeback player of the year. Fanelli's career could have easily ended in 2009 when his head was driven into the glass by Michael Liambis. But Fanelli returned this season after sitting out almost two full years. He has missed just one game this season and scored his first OHL goal. Best game: Fanelli set up Kitchener's first goal and was on the ice for three of Kitchener's four goals, finishing the game at plus-3, in a 4-1 win over Saginaw Oct. 7. Stuart Percy, D, Mississauga St. Michael's Majors (25 games, 4 goals, 18 assists, 22 points, +12) Named Mississauga's captain, Percy has continued to expand his offensive game to compliment his already-solid defensive game. He has already matched his career high in goals and is well on his way to topping last year's 33 points. Although Mississauga is no longer a powerhouse after losing its top eight scorers, Percy's play has still helped keep the Majors above .500 in the league's toughest division. Best game: Percy had a goal and three assists and was a plus-4 in Mississauga's 6-4 win over Sault Ste. Marie Nov. 20. Percy's goal with three seconds to play in the second period gave the Majors a 4-2 lead heading into the third. He also assisted on the game-winning goal. Spencer Martin, G, Mississauga St. Michael's Majors (7 games, 2-4-0, 3.98 average, .884 save percentage) Martin won his first two games before being handed losses in the next four. But he is the only 16-year-old goalie playing regularly in the OHL. He earned a spot on the Ontario team for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and with the Majors losing starter J.P. Anderson next year, Martin is regarded as the goaltender of the future for Mississauga. Best game: It would be hard to argue with Martin's OHL debut Oct. 12, when he stopped 29 shots in a 4-2 win over Erie. Trailing 2-1, he blanked the Otters over the final 33 minutes. Scott Laughton, C, Oshawa Generals (31 games, 5 goals, 16 assists, 21 points) After two assists in the Generals' season opener, points did not come easy for Laughton. It took until Oshawa's 11th game for him to score his first goal of the season, but Laughton caught fire in December, racking up nine points in his last six games. He is now just two points shy of his totals from his rookie season. In his NHL draft year, Laughton will play for Team Cherry in the Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game in Kelowna in February. Best game: Laughton had a goal and two assists in a 9-1 win over Peterborough Dec. 4. He set up goals 36 seconds apart in the opening period and added a power-play marker of his own in the second. It came just two nights after a three-assist performance against Sarnia. Brandon Alderson, RW, Sault Ste. Marie (34 games, 8 goals, 13 assists, 21 points) Acquired from Sarnia in the off-season, Alderson is another player approaching career bests. The 6-foot-5 winger put up 30 points last year with Sarnia. He should easily top that this season and has also been a reliable defensive player, leading all Greyhound forwards with a plus-8 mark. Best game: Alderson scored just 30 seconds into a game against his former team, Sarnia, and then with the game tied 2-2, set up the winning goal in a 5-2 Greyhound victory Oct. 20. $ Furnace Diagnostic Service only 9 locations to serve you better www.aireone.com A+ Rating No extra charges for after-hours or weekends 49 R reg $99 REDUCE 1-888-827-2665 (905) 849-4998 recycle EUSE Call Jessica at 905-845-3824 ext. 284 jlangero@oakvillebeaver.com HOME IMPROVEMENT Inter-Can Painting Inc.
