This fear, however, also filled her with determination to fight her cancer and prevent it from taking her away from her family. While she was only 10 years old at the time, Jennifer said, Leah understood the situation and began trying to help where she could. This included raising more than $400 for the Wellspring Cancer Support Network by setting up a snack stand on her street with some friends. She also attended some of her mother's chemotherapy treatments and accompanied Jennifer on a wig-shopping trip after she lost her hair. "It was kind of interesting to see what would happen during the chemo," said Leah. "I felt like going because I wanted to see what would happen and how they did it."
