Backtracking is not the fix on parking Continued from page 8 9 · Friday, March 9, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com consider some of these parking solutions. The options involve alternating parking prohibitions on various streets including Douglas Avenue. Ward 2 Town and Regional Councillor Cathy Duddeck said she would not support a reconsideration of the Douglas Avenue parking prohibitions, stating that if problems exist on other streets they can be dealt with without reversing what has worked on one street. Ward 2 Councillor Pam Damoff also said she would not support the reconsideration. "I don't think the people of Douglas should have to deal with this kind of issue any more than the people on Darlington Trail did, which we dealt with just a few weeks ago," said Damoff. "We told those people (who live near a school) they didn't have to put up with parking at drop-off and pickup (times). These people on Douglas, and Spruce Street before it, had to deal with this all day long and I don't see how we can tell Darlington Trail that it's OK for them to get no parking (prohibitions) and not do the same on Douglas." Oakville Mayor Rob Burton said he would not support the reconsideration, but said he has made an offer to work with residents on other streets to bring them some parking relief. Council did not vote to reconsider the Douglas Avenue parking prohibitions.
