Celebrating St. Patrick's Day 9 · Wednesday, March 21, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com ERIC RIEHL / OAKVILLE BEAVER MICHAEL IVANIN / OAKVILLE BEAVER PHOTOS BY ERIC RIEHL / OAKVILLE BEAVER 0 Across oakville: At left, Eddie Williams completed his 36th St. Patrick's Day Walk, from downtown Toronto to downtown Oakville Saturday, March 15. After finishing the annual 42-kilometre hike, he had logged 1,512 km over the 36 years he has been making the walk. He has faithfully continued a tradition that dates back to 1922 when a liquor prohibition forced Toronto's Irishmen to walk from Toronto to Oakville in search of bootlegged beer. Joining Williams, but walking to raise funds for Home Suite Hope were (above centre) Luella Frazer, left, and Agatha Platiel. A Celtic LAFF (Life after 55) event, with food, fun and fellowship, saw the Celtic Connection perform at Glen Abbey United Church. At right, dancers from the GogginCarroll School of Irish Dance Ellesse Legare, left, and Shannon Guilday performed at Hopedale Mall. % FINANCING & LEASING O.A.C.
