The prescribed burn is a method to help rejuvenate the Oak trees in the park after they were severely decimated by up to 80 per cent by the twolined chestnut borer (bugs) and armillaria (fungus) in 2002. Oak trees have a root system that can withstand temperatures of up to 450 degrees F and therefore will rejuvenate after a prescribed burn.
