While there may have been a chill in the air last week, things were heating up at Philthy McNasty's as local firefighters kicked off their upcoming 2013 Oakville Firefighters Calendar. Nearly 250 women attended the event, which sold out within a week of tickets going on sale. Those attending voted for their favourite firefighters as 18 members of Oakville's Professional Firefighters Association (PFFA) showcased slick dance moves for a chance to secure one of the pages of the upcoming calendar. "Hats off to the brave 18 Oakville firefighters who danced around the bar -- and on it -- to help raise money and awareness for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, Oakville Hospital Foundation, Ian Anderson House Foundation, and Oakville PFFA sponsorships," said Helena Thompson, event coordinator. "There is a lot of excitement around the Extreme Heat Alert -- Oakville's 2013 Firefighters Calendar, as we have not produced one in the past seven years. There are many start-up costs associated with this undertaking and events such as the kickoff help offset them," Thompson said. Another fundraiser event is planned for June 5 at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, 2420 Sixth Line, at 7 p.m. The Girls' Night Out event will feature Firefighters calendar heating up fundraising Oakville's firefighters and local comedian and mood-ivational speaker Carole Bertuzzi Luciani. Tickets cost $30 and are available by e-mailing oakville_firefighters_calendar@hotmail. ca or calling Phil Cartwright at 905-616-5493.
