This was the first of six such Report Card 2011 presentations in Halton. It was made to a gathering of community partners at Oakville Town Hall. This is the organization's third report card as it releases one every three years. "As a member of the board of Children's Aid, I've come to see first hand the value of the report card of Our Kids Network," Mayor Rob Burton said as an introduction. "I myself use the report card in the work I do at the Town and at the Region and at Children's Aid." He said council believes there is a value of using appropriate measurements as a guide tool for managing and building a better community. Furthermore, he said he was happy with the results for Oakville in the report card. "I'm very pleased with the progress that Oakville seems to be making in the report card. When I read that 12 year olds have a high rate of breakfast consumption -- I've raised three kids so I know that's important to their performance -- I have to believe that's a good sign," he said. See Youths page 9 Oakville will negotiate with OLG By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Town has told the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) the problems it has with an initiative intended to revitalize bingo halls across Ontario. Now it's time to see if the OLG will act to solve these concerns. The Town's Administrative Services Committee voted Wednesday to sign the OLG's Charitable Gaming Centre Municipality Agreement -- if four conditions are met. These include a Town demand for a say in what gaming products are allowed in Oakville's only bingo hall, Delta Bingo, at Mayor Rob Burton 483 Speers Rd. Councillors said the existing language of the arrangement could allow the introduction of slot machines and Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) without the municipality's input. Changing exit clauses, which currently bind the Town to a 16-year contract while OLG has a 90-day exit clause, was another condition. Dealing with issues surrounding cost recovery and appropriate reciprocity were other conditions cited by the Town. The cost recovery issues include forecasts by the OLG showing that under the agreement the Town will receive less money despite an overall increase in revenue to Oakville Delta Bingo.
