The event, which runs from Aug. 10-12 in downtown Oakville, is receiving $75,000 in funding through the Celebrate Ontario 2012 program. Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn recently made the announcement to the Downtown Oakville BIA Jazz Committee. "Each summer, the Jazz Festival draws thousands of residents and tourists to downtown Oakville, providing a substantial boost to our local economy," stated Flynn, in a press release. "With this funding, the BIA can continue to strategically enhance the event programming and ensure another successful event this year. I encourage all to mark the dates on their calendar and make their way to the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival this August. I'm looking forward to it," said the Oakville MPP. This summer will mark the 20th year of the annual event. The three-day festival includes a slew of performers on outdoor stages throughout the downtown. On the Saturday of the festival, Lakeshore Road is closed, creating a walking-friendly event. "The Jazz Festival is a dynamic cultural experience, which offers residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy first-class jazz in one of the best downtowns in Ontario, over a three-day period," stated Joseph Diodati, chair of the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival Committee and chair of the Downtown Oakville BIA, in the release. Some of this year's acts include Allen Toussaint, John Hammond, Peter Appleyard, Joey DeFrancesco, Tierney Sutton, and Magic Slim & The Teardrops.
