Oakville's political leaders and Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) executives joined Minister of Infrastructure Bob Chiarelli, at the Dundas Street/Third Line site to participate in the ceremony and to recognize just how far the project has moved forward. "Developing a hospital of this type is an exceptional story of community leadership in every single case," said Chiarelli, speaking loudly to make his voice heard over the noise of a nearby cement truck and other construction vehicles. "This could not happen without community leadership." The minister congratulated those present for their commitment to contribute nearly $200 million towards the new hospital. The Town of Oakville has agreed to contribute $130 million while the Oakville Hospital gaining a footing: Ontario Infrastructure Minister Bob Chiarelli (centre) digs into wet cement at the ceremonial concrete pouring at the new Oakville hospital site. Chiarelli, himself a former construction worker, threw in a loonie for luck and was joined by, from left, Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn, Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) President and CEO John Oliver, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and hospital board Chair John Fleming. Foundation has pledged to throw in another $60 million. Chiarelli acknowledged that getting everyone pulling in the same direction with regard to such a project is no easy task.
