Major rookie A's roll in Burlington The Oakville A's major rookieball baseball squad went undefeated to win the championship at a recent tournament in Burlington. Oakville beat teams from Royal York, Whitby and Burlington in the round robin, then blasted Whitby 18-3 in the gold-medal game. Earlier in the season at the MNBA tournament in Mississauga, the A's knocked off top-ranked North York in the semis before falling to a hard-hitting London squad in the final. Members of the A's are Max Lanoue, Elijha Hammill, Andrew Keddy, Thomas Diamandas, Tristan Malboeuf, Wil Yamka, Mark Schmid, Nathan Pauley, Matteo Quaresma, Blake Schriver, Justin Jang and Jordan Woods. "I am very proud of both of them. What impressed me the most in fact was how they kept working hard and kept going. A lot of kids get their black belt and then stop pursuing it," she said. "I am proud to see it as a process for them. Sometimes when kids get older they develop other interests, but Ben and Zoe have worked hard all the way." Paul also said she wishes she started taekwondo at the age her kids began compet- ing. "I wish I began a lot younger then I did," she said. "The fact that they are black belts already speaks a lot of their character. It's different when I was a kid than how it is now." Sanchez added that having a black belt at ages 10 and 13 would help both children in the future. "People will be shocked that they have accomplished this," he said. "It shows that they are dedicated to something and are willing to work hard in order to achieve it."
