Explore your imagination with Summer Reading Club ravelling in the summer can be hard, what with rising airplane fares and the fact that all the cool places to go are in books. Your parents still won't buy you a ticket to Narnia? Join our TD Summer Reading Club and `imagine' your way there. The TD Summer Reading Club is a very popular program that promotes literacy all around our community. It would not have been possible without the help of our incredibly generous sponsors, African Lion Safari (www.lionsafari.com), Conservation Halton (www.conservationhalton.on. ca), Friends of the Oakville Public Library (www.friendsofthelibrary.ca), McDonald's restaurants in Oakville (www.mcdonalds.ca), and YMCA of Oakville (www.ymcaofoakville.com). Remember, sign-ups for this program last all summer. We've had more than 2,500 kids sign up so far, so join the fun if you haven't already done so. It isn't just traditional books that count as "reading" either -- it's DVDs, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, or you can even be read to. It's that easy, and there are many prizes to be won from our sponsors. If you're looking for inspiration on what to read next, here are the top three titles that are extremely popular with the summer reading crowd this year: · No. 3: Babymouse by Jennifer Holm -- a "graphic novel" series for the younger set, based on a little mouse trying to be perfect and learning it's okay to make mistakes · No. 2: And Then It Happened by M. & L. Wade -- a series that follows three boys through their antics and escapades · No. 1: Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney -- the increasingly popular series following Greg Heffley on his struggles through middle school For more information on our TD Summer Reading Club, or to sign up online, visit our Summer Reading page on our website at www.opl.on.ca/ programs/summer-reading.
