TigerTel raising money for a good cause For the sixth year TigerTel employees, family and friends are coming together to participate in an action packed day of spirited competition at the 2012 Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival. Once again our team, the Blue Tigers is fundraising in aid of the Halton Children's Aid Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. All of the TigerTel locations, thirteen in all, take part in fundraising for this event; it's a wonderful way to connect our employees from coast to coast. This year, we have set a fundraising goal that we fully anticipate exceeding. We are proud to be a part of this event, knowing that we are helping to ensure that the many invaluable programs provided by the Halton Children's Aid Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation are continued. Sunday, August 12, 2012 - The 9th Annual TigerTel Oakville Charity Why does Rotary run Dragon Boat Races? Well, Rotary is the world's oldest and largest service club, with 1.2 million members, 33,000 clubs, in over 200 countries. We're part of a global network of people of all cultures, races, gender and creeds working hard to live by our motto, Service Above Self. A key way we work is through partnerships with the Rotarians around the world and today, with Halton Children's Aid Foundation. We like everyone to know that every dollar we raise is given away. We're The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar (RCOT). Know more about our club, our projects, about being a Rotarian. Visit www.rcot.ca. A special thanks to our sponsors TITLE SPONSOR Dragon Boat Festival raises much needed funds for CAFH The Children's Aid Foundation of Halton (CAFH) funds life changing programs for children who are receiving services from the Halton Children's Aid Society. These children have experienced abuse, neglect or family trauma and are dealing with emotional challenges that no child should have to face. By providing opportunities for children to attend a variety of nurturing and motivating programs, and bursaries for post secondary education, CAFH is offering the tools for children in need to overcome their challenges, realize their dreams and become successful members of this community. To continue this great work the CAFH needs the support of this community. The Tigertel Oakville Dragon Boat Festival, organized by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar is a wonderful example of how residents of this community can pull together to help Halton's most vulnerable citizens. The Festival gives the Children's Aid Foundation of Halton the chance to raise some much needed funds to keep the momentum of successful programs and sustain them for years to come. The Bursary program, for example, is having such an impact on young adults being raised in care. An increasing number of young people are applying for post secondary bursaries, they realize that pursuing an education gives them more choices in life and they can take control of their journey. A very special feature of the Tigertel Oakville Dragon Boat Festival is that it allows at least 20 of our very own youth the opportunity to enter a team and experience a great bonding moment. A few years ago at this event, members of the team won their first medals ever; they wore those medals for a week, including wearing them to bed and on parade at summer camp. Now a regular participant William aged 19, expresses the importance of the event by saying: "I'd like to say thank you to the people who organize the dragon boat festival because it gives kids like me a chance to exercise our courage and a shot at showing everyone that we do have honour". This event exists because of the generous support of sponsors and volunteers. Thank you so much for creating such a memorable day for everyone at the Halton Children's Aid Society and the Children's Aid Foundation of Halton. Please support the Tigertel Oakville Dragon Boat Festival and join us on August 12th 2012 to help support children & youth who are creating dreams and getting ready for success. Dragon Boat to become an olympic event... Maybe someday...but until then, the exciting Ninth Annual TigerTel Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival is like having the London Games just up the road. The festival takes place this Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Kelso Conservation Park with the first race at 8 AM. It's an action-packed day with 40 teams both local and out-of-town, competing. Along with the spirited competition, the festival is one big party, offering lots of choices to have fun outdoors. Vendors provide a wide selection of food and beverages, including a beer garden for thirsty paddlers and their supporters. There is also plenty of prizes and music. Last year, about 1,150 people participated in or attended the Festival, which is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar as a fundraiser for various charitable organizations. Keep in mind that a full 100% of the funds raised at this event go to charities supported by Rotary. This year's Festival sponsors include three Oakville-based businesses. The Title Sponsor is TigerTel, which provides award-winning, outsourced call centre and contact management services across North America. TigerTel is joined by two Silver Sponsors: The Co-operators (Dave Pecharich, Agent), which provides financial security for Canadians, and The Sign Department, which creates customized signage for any message. Proceeds from this year's event will be donated to the Halton Children's Aid Society, as well as other charities supported by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar. Rotary is respected globally for its charity work, especially with children. From vaccinating the world's children against polio through its renowned Polio Plus program, to providing communities with clean water, Rotary sends volunteers into every corner of the world. Local Rotary clubs such as the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar also support the needy right in our own community through a wide range of projects. These include an annual Strawberry Social for elderly who struggle to get out, helping fund a bus for Halton's Alzheimer Day Program operated by Acclaim Health and much, much more. Rotarian Dave Pecharich, chair of the 2012 Festival organizing committee, says his club is extremely proud of the many ways the community directly benefits from the funds raised. "It's also a tremendously fun event, so it's a win-win for everyone involved". Last year's Festival raised an impressive $50,000 for charity. That's a lot of paddle power!
