Music in the Square in Kerr Village Arts council hosts grants workshop Are you in the mood for some live music without wanting to leave the community? Well, the Kerr Village BIA has something for you. All you need to do is bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on. Until Sept. 15, the organization is hosting its Music in the Square events each Saturday at Heritage Square. The free program runs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. People can also pack a picnic or pick up a bite to go from one of the area restaurants. "Music in the Square is back by popular demand," said John Marlatt, chair of the BIA special events committee and proprietor of the Moonshine Café, in a press release. "Merchants and residents alike have approached the BIA, expressing their interest in weekly events over the summer months. They feel such activities bring tremendous value to both the Kerr Village neighbourhood and the community of Oakville at-large." This Saturday (Aug. 11) will feature musicians Irene Torres & The Sugar Devils. The group performs all musical genres. Other performers include Hawk's Nest (Aug. 18), the Iain Leslie Band (Aug. 25), The Last Rodeo (Sept.1), Phil Kane Combo Deluxe (Sept. 8) and The Kings (Sept. 15). The organizers are looking to expand the Saturday programing at the Square in 2013. "We are always open to ideas for future events," Marlatt said, "and really appreciate those folks who have stepped forward with suggestions, as we strive to make Kerr Village the place to be."
