Hart scored on the play as the Raiders defeated Oakville 3-2 in the season opener for both teams, but the Blades earned a 3-2 triumph of their own the following evening in Georgetown. Blades, Raiders start season with split The Oakville Blades and Georgetown Raiders might not look the same as they have in recent years, but the rivalry remains the same. Oakville and Georgetown both posted 3-2 victories in each other's home rink to start the Ontario Junior Hockey League campaign last weekend. The Raiders spoiled the Blades' home opener at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex Friday before Oakville returned the favour Saturday in Georgetown. The Blades and Raiders have been two of the most successful franchises in the OJHL in recent years. Georgetown has finished first overall in the league twice in the past five regular seasons, while the Blades have posted top-five finishes four times in the last six years. The teams also collided in the playoffs the last five seasons, with Oakville winning the first four series before the Raiders prevailed last spring. But both organizations were sold to new owners over the offseason and appear headed in a different direction. Georgetown, typically one of the older teams in the OJHL, had just two 20-yearolds in its lineup on the weekend. The Blades have only a handful of returnees on their roster as well. "It's going to take some time as a coach to see what your players are capable of doing, but this team has the potential to develop some exciting young players," Georgetown head coach and general manager Greg Walters said. "Oakville is in the same situation we are." Jonah Renouf had a goal and an assist Friday in his debut for the Blades, while his brother Nathan chipped in with two assists. Vince Cerone had the other marker for Oakville, which carried a 2-1 lead into the third period. Georgetown, which outshot the Blades 31-22 on the night, tied the game early in the third and then netted the winner with 6:06 left in regulation. Saturday, it was Oakville's turn to overcome a 2-1 deficit. Matt Alvaro scored midway through the second period to tie the game 2-2, and Kris Bennett notched his second of the game late in the middle frame to give the Blades a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish. Marc Silvestro drew assists on both of Bennett's goals. Evan Buitenhuis made 30 saves to earn the victory as Georgetown once again outshot the Blades, this time by a 32-24 margin. The Blades will return to action Saturday with a visit to Toronto Lakeshore, one of three road games slated over the next week. Oakville will play 10 of its next 14 contests on the road. The Blades' next home game is not scheduled until Sept. 21, when it will host North York. -- With files from Eamonn Maher, Metroland Megia Group Swant quickly making name at Maine Lauren Swant is making a good first impression at the University of Maine. The former Oakville Soccer Club goalkeeper was named the America East Conference rookie of the week after shutting out South Carolina State University. It was the second clean sheet of the season for Swant, who has started four games and played in two others for the Black Bears. The Holy Trinity graduate has posted a 1.36 goalsagainst average and an .806 save percentage in 464 minutes.
