Wildcats flying high Oakville to be represented well at U18 hockey nationals Oakville will be heavily represented on the two Ontario hockey teams that will compete at the national women's under-18 championships next month in Dawson Creek, B.C. Five local residents and two more players with Oakville connections were named to either the Ontario Red or Ontario Blue squads. T.A. Blakelock student Camille Leonard, Appleby College's Kristyn Capizzano and Abbey Park's Sydney McKibbon will suit up for Ontario Red, as will Oakville intermediate AA Hornets player Kristin Gilmour. Countering for Ontario Blue will be King's Christian Collegiate student Victoria Bach, Oakville Trafalgar's Kristen Miller and local resident Brittany Smrke. In addition, intermediate AA Hornets coach Bradi Cochrane will serve as head coach of the Ontario Blue team. The national women's under-18 championships will also feature teams from Atlantic Canada, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec. Following are details about Oakville's top performers at each meet: Amos meet The Amos meet saw Pine Grove win three division titles and three other Oakville schools add pennants as well. Pine Grove claimed the tyke boys' A, bantam boys' and junior girls' divisions. Forest Trail was the tyke boys' B champion, Joshua Creek claimed top honours in the atom boys' B grouping, and Forest Trail was the winner in bantam girls' action. The school swept the boys' and girls' titles in both the bantam and junior divisions while posting a runner-up finish in atom boys' A competition. E.J. James won the tyke boys' A and atom boys' B titles. Post's Corners was the other local division champion, claiming the intermediate boys' crown. Munn's was second in four divisions, and Sunningdale had four top-three finishes. In individual action, Oakville winners were Maple Grove's Olivia Gardiner (junior girls), Dylan Greenhalgh (junior boys), Anna Bremermann (intermediate girls) and Hannah Treadway (senior girls), E.J. Bandy meet Gladys Speers won a division title and added five more topfive finishes at the Bandy meet. The school's bantam boys' team totalled a low score of 23 to easily win its group, 39 points ahead of Maplehurst. Gladys Speers was also fourth in the tyke girls', atom girls', junior girls' and junior boys' divisions and fifth in the tyke boys' division. Full names of Gladys Speers' top individual performers were not provided. Bero meet In the Bero meet, New Central's bantam girls and junior girls both won division pennants. New Central's boys added a second-place finish in the bantam division and a third-place effort in the junior division. Individually for New Central, Liam Richardson won the junior boys' race, Lauren Sparling was second in the bantam girls' run, Chelsea Codece finished third in junior girls and Sabrina Joakim (junior girls) and Chris Merrick (junior boys) posted fourth-place showings.
