www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, October 31, 2012 · 20 Trinity hopeful of earning Blades goalie thriving in workhorse role rematch with Hawks Continued from page 19 obvious keys in the playoffs for the Hawks, who have just eight players on their roster. But Loyola isn't dependent on any one player, either. Four different Hawks scored at least 10 points in the win over Trinity, with Sam Pocrnic scoring 18, Alex Ruscica adding 15, Emily Wilk contributing 13 and Jaelyne Kirkpatrick notching 10. Tiffany McNeil countered with 16 points and Lauren Jamieson scored 11 for the Titans, who struggled with turnovers in the opening half. "Our girls were a little shellshocked," Trinity coach Anthony Pugliese said. Pugliese isn't quite ready to engrave Loyola into the Halton trophy nameplate, however. "I told our girls about how Loyola lost to Notre Dame last year going into the playoffs, then beat them in the final. That's what we're trying to do," he said. "We're just looking forward to earning a chance to play them again. Because anything can happen in one game, especially in girls' basketball." The second-seeded Titans will be home to the seventhranked Assumption Crusaders in tomorrow's quarter-finals, while Loyola will take on No. 8 Notre Dame. No. 3 Abbey Park (9-2) will host sixth-seeded Nelson and fifth-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas (7-4) will visit No. 4 Bishop Reding in the other quarterfinal matchups. All games are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. tips. A heavy workload isn't hindering the performance of Oakville Blades goaltender Evan Buitenhuis. The 19-year-old Burlington native posted two shutouts in as many days last weekend, backstopping the Blades to a 4-0 win over the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex and a 3-0 triumph over the Orangeville Flyers Saturday in Orangeville. Buitenhuis, who has appeared in all 18 of the Blades' games this season (starting 17 of them), is now tied for the Ontario Junior Hockey League lead in shutouts with three. All three of those shutouts have come in the last seven game for Buitenhuis, whose 2.41 goals-against average ranks fourth in the league among goalies with eight or more starts on the season. Jonah Renouf had a goal and an assist while Stefan Leblanc contributed three helpers in the victory over Toronto Lakeshore. Patrick Chorse, Kris Bennett and Spencer Green also tallied for the Blades, with Buitenhuis making 19 stops. Saturday, Oakville got goals from Kyle Jenkins, Harrison Domagala and Renouf. All three players each added an assist as well, and Buitenhuis stopped 21 shots. Oakville (12-3-3) currently sits two points behind St. Michael's for first place in the OJHL's South Division. The Blades hold two games in hand on the first-place Buzzers. Oakville will play a pair of home contests this weekend, hosting the Hamilton Red Wings Friday and the Buffalo Jr. Sabres Saturday. Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m. starts at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Halton champ Red Devils won't represent region at OFSAA field hockey Despite winning the Halton Tier 1 championship this season, the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils won't be one of two Halton teams representing the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) at this year's provincial girls' field hockey championships. OT was denied a return trip to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) tournament Thursday with a 1-0 shootout loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a team the Red Devils beat 3-0 in the Halton semifinals Oct. 18. The other GHAC rep for the OFSAA tournament will be the Nelson Lords, who OT edged 3-2 in the Halton final Oct. 22. The GHAC playoff format allows top-four finishers in Halton to face off against the top two teams in the Hamilton Catholic league. The Halton and Hamilton Catholic champions enjoy first-round byes in the tournament. NO NHL... NO PROBLEM! Oakville Blades Double Header Weekend!
