Flags at Halton schools flew half-mast Monday By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Flags at local public and Catholic schools were flown at half-mast Monday in response to last Friday's tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The Halton District School Board notified its parents while flags at its schools and buildings were at half-mast, the schools had no general announcements about the tragic events, due to the range in age and maturity of its students. The board has informed parents it will leave it to them to determine how to address the issue at home. However, principals and teachers were responding to student concerns as they arose and they have been given appropriate resources to do so. "The Halton District School Board has been deeply affected by the tragic events in Connecticut on Friday," said director of education David Euale, in a letter to parents.
