Halton Region CAO taking a new path in January By Julia Le METROLAND WEST MEDIA GROUP Being chief administration officer (CAO) of Halton Region has been the highlight of his career, Pat Moyle told Halton Regional council last week. Moyle, found himself in the spotlight as council thanked him for his dedication to the job over the last five years. With his voice shaking at times, Moyle said he has had the privilege of working with council and an exceptional team of talented and committed professional staff. "I have been treated with respect, given encouragement, confidence and your trust, which, in turn, has allowed me to do my job and enjoy my job," said Moyle, who has worked in a variety of leadership roles since his late 20s. Moyle is retiring after a 30-year career in the municipal public sector. Last Wednesday's council meeting marked the final one he will attend as the CAO of Halton Region. He described his job as the pinch point of an hourglass, with the top half representing the elected officials who make decisions and policies and the bottom half implementing them. He said it was his job to make sure everything was done. "This system works well when people work together, get along and always have the Association of Municipalities of Ontario said he's leaving the "best job" so he can spend more time with his family members, who have moved all around Ontario to further his career. "Our immediate plan is to disconnect the Blackberry, turn off the computer and spend the winter in a warm climate," he said. "In late April, I will return and I will assess what, if anything, might be of interest perhaps at a volunteer capacity." Regional Chair Gary Carr said Moyle will be missed as a colleague and friend. He said it has been an honour and a Pat Moyle the taxpayers' interest as top of mind," he said, adding Halton Region is exemplary of this. Moyle even joked he enjoyed his job so much, on many occasions he would've worked for half of what the Region paid him. "Now, having said that, there were a couple of days where I wanted to be paid like Bill Gates, so perhaps it all evens out," he told council. "The bottom line is that I certainly felt appreciated and that provided terrific motivation for me." Moyle, who has been the CAO for the Town of Caledon, Town of Huntsville and the Town of Orangeville in his 30-year career, as well as the executive director of privilege to work with him. "Under Pat's strong leadership, we have delivered on many remarkable initiatives. His reputation in the municipal community has not gone unnoticed and has proven that he has the legacy of an outstanding leader," said Carr. "I would like to thank Pat for his dedication and commitment to Halton Region and for his invaluable sound judgment and guidance. We wish him all the best in his retirement." Moyle's official retirement will be in midJanuary 2013. A search for his replacement is currently underway. 13 · Wednesday, December 19, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Ask us how to save 20¢ per litre 2013 Jetta 1.9% $168 $0 $0 LEASE FROM PER MONTH FOR 36 MONTHS* APR DOWN PAYMENT FIRST MONTH'S PAYMENT** A Gift from Santa.
