Faith makes Christian school different 19 · Wednesday, January 16, 2013 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com MacLachlan teachers are awesome "I'm proud to be a faculty member of MacLachlan College, an IB World School," says Head of School Michael Piening. " It is very rewarding professionally to be part of the MacLachlan community and its focus on shaping the minds of future generations." He notes that the International Baccalaureate is one of the world's most rigorous and highly esteemed education programmes. Founded in 1978, MacLachlan College is housed in a beautifully restored mansion in the heart of Oakville. Students range in age from prekindergarten to university entrance. Upon entering the school, one is immediately struck by the friendly atmosphere. Teachers, parents and students love the comfortable, family style environment. Walking the halls, a feeling of active, collaborative engagement in learning is clearly evident. The foundation for a great school is built on the strength of its teachers. Mr. Piening is full of praise for all the staff members he has worked with over the twenty years since he first walked through the doors of the school. "There is a positive atmosphere and high level of morale amongst our staff," Mr. Piening continues. A MacLachlan family sums up the feelings of many parents. "I love McLachlan because they are committed to giving our children the best education possible How do you define the "feel" of a school? What makes one private school different from another? At John Knox Christian School in Oakville, our Christian faith is what defines us most clearly. Our love for God is the reason we are excited to learn and study His creation. Our faith is incorporated into every aspect of our wonderful school, including all our curriculum. Academically, our students are solid achievers, rating one grade level higher than the average Canadian Test of Basic Skills (CTBS) test participants. They consistently rank as top students throughout high school at either King's Christian Collegiate or many of the other private and public schools. Feel free to come and experience the warm and caring, family-like environment at JKCS by contacting Mrs. Jennifer Bergner at jbergner@jkcs-oakville.org for a personal tour. We offer a variety of inclusive and non-competitive extracurricular activities that encompass many different interests. Students participate in a variety of extracurricular and after school clubs such as model building, photography, chess, and drama. "These programs give students a chance to pursue emerging and common interests with classmates that can help to promote new friendships and deepen existing relationships. Activities are organized during lunch times, after school and as special events," said Laura Crumb, Head of School. Through our membership in the Private School Athletic Association (PSAA), our Junior and Intermediate students are afforded the opportunity to compete against a number of independent schools throughout the year in soccer, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, and track and field. We encourage all interested students to participate in tryouts for school teams. The rewards of education in the arts is readily apparent in the confidence students display and the joy in their expressions from acting on stage. Although drama is part of the curriculum, each year, more than 100 students from Grades 3 to 8 also join the cast of the annual musical. Rotherglen's two Oakville campuses offer a coeducational independent education for students in Casa (age 3) to Grade 8.
