Quick success for peewee DS Hornets CHIEFS OF MISSISSAUGA: The Oakville Hornets peewee development stream team won the Mississauga Chiefs Christmas Classic with 2-1 victories in both the semifinal and championship game. Just four weeks after being formed, the Oakville Hornets peewee development stream team won gold at the 32nd Mississauga Chiefs Christmas Classic girls' hockey tournament. The Hornets avenged a tournamentopening 4-3 loss to Aurora by beating the same Aurora squad 2-1 in the championship game. Rene Urwin scored 37 seconds into the game for Oakville and Rachel Zeliznak provided quality goaltending throughout the contest to key the win. Oakville also posted a 2-1 victory in the semifinal, though a shootout was required before the Hornets could claim victory over Burlington. Keira Courneyea notched the shootout winner. In the Hornets' other games, they blanked Etobicoke 3-0 and downed Barrie 3-1. Other members of the team are Danielle Alonso, Michelle Boratko, Sinead George, Emily Hudson, Robyn Jeffries, Becca Lamme, Shelby McKerrow, Bayley McLaughlin, Courtney McNutt, Caitlin Paulos, Larissa Potichny, Hannah Schelfhaut, Ashley Toor, Jules Collarile, Kamryn Potts, Abigail Ashley and Gabby D'Amico. Oakville clinched the gold with a 3-2 victory over Brampton in the final. Members of the team are Andrew Brown, Brayden Gillespie, Caled St-Onge, Cody O'Neill, Cooper Simpson, Daniel Rokicki, Ethan Noble, Gunnar Popek, Kaden Thompson-Hill, Kaylan Lucksiri, Kaylie Lucksiri, Owen Pagniello, Robby Gray, Salem Johnson, Tyson Rowan, William Taylor and Zachary Wadden. Lakeside Volleyball Club's under-18 girls top-ranked team in province Oakville-based Lakeside Volleyball Club boasts the top-ranked under-18 girls' team in the province after winning a recent Premier Division tournament. Lakeside's blocking and team composure was the difference in a 25-23, 25-21 victory over London's Forest City in the tournament final. Lakeside defeated the defending provincial and national champions, the Durham Attack, 25-21, 25-18 in the semifinals. Earlier in the tournament, Lakeside won its first two games to advance to the knockout stage, then overcame an opening-set loss to defeat the Eclipse 2-1.
