Deputy Fire Chief Brian Durdin said firefighters were called to the home at 6:30 p.m. after a neighbour noticed smoke coming from the house. When firefighters entered, they discovered a fire in the kitchen, which had also spread to the hallway and attic. Durdin said the fire was brought under control and extinguished fairly quickly, but not before approximately $150,000 worth of damage was done to the house. No one was home at the time of the fire. Durdin said the fire resulted from cooking equipment being left on and unattended. Eight fire trucks were called to the site during the course of the blaze.
