OMHS to FIREWORKS CANADA go green, GOVERNMENT LICENSED TECHNICIANS ON STAFF with help Local volunteers will get their hands dirty in support of bringing nature to the pets in need at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS), Monday, May 20. Purina and Evergreen have partnered up to give outdoor restorations to five pet shelters across Canada -- the OMHS is the first to receive the upgrade. "The innovative design will transform the shelter's outdoor space into a green haven for the animals to enjoy," stated a press release. "In just one day, volunteers will add lush native and perennial plants ensuring animals in need, and their future families have an outdoor space to enjoy." In addition, the outdoor restoration for the 445 Cornwall Rd. shelter will include: · updating the serenity garden with greenery -- the garden is a place for locals to visit their pets that have died, and is one of the most visited areas of the OMHS · creating a natural buffer of plants around the exterior of the dog training area so that it is sheltered from outside distractions. This added greenery will provide a natural barrier to help staff keep dogs on task and facilitate training The event will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 15 | Thursday, May 16, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com F F O 25% . Participants can choose to take part in a five-kilometre or 10K scenic route of the Oakville park and invited to stay after the race for refreshments and prizes -- awards will be given in each event category and for top fundraisers. Proceeds go to the Tim Horton Children's Foundation, a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to sending local children and youth, whose families could not otherwise afford it, to camp. Last year's event raised more than $50,000 and, this year, will help send more than 15,000 children from across Canada and the U.S. to camp at no cost to them or their families -- since 2001, the run/walk has raised more than $275,000 for the Children's Foundation.
