Lunch Money Tuesday collects change from commuters Food for Life is holding its fifth annual Lunch Money Tuesday on May 28 in an effort to promote Hunger Awareness Day. Since 2006, Hunger Awareness Day has brought to light the solvable problem of hunger in Canada. Local food programs, including Oakville's Food for Life, hold events on the day to tell the story about the work they do and to encourage more people to actively work toward eradicating hunger in their communities, stated a press release. Morning commuters will be greeted by Food for Life volunteers at GO stations across Halton, including Oakville, Bronte, Burlington, Aldershot, Appleby, Milton and Georgetown. Volunteers will ask commuters to share their lunch money for that day to support the collection and delivery of surplus fresh food in the region. In operation since 1995, Food for Life is a food-recovery program where seven days a week, surplus perishable food (baked goods, fruits and vegetables, prepared food, dairy and meat, bulk food, etc.) is collected from grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants and the corporate food sector. The collected food is delivered at no cost to more than 50 community social service organizations in Halton and more than 45 outreach programs established in low-income neighbourhoods in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Acton and Georgetown. Volunteers will be at the Oakville (214 Cross Ave.) and Bronte (2104 Wyecroft Rd.) GO stations from 6-9 a.m. For more information, visit www. foodforlife.ca. 15 | Friday, May 24, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com French Antique Auction Oasis Convention Centre 1036 Lakeshore Rd.
