LOL has been held in Oakville since 2008, raising funds for cancer research and support services with an extremely popular, sold out comedy event each spring. photo by Eric Riehl Oakville Beaver (Follow on Twitter @halton_photog) Ladies Out Laughing raises $60K For the sixth year in a row, Oakville's annual Ladies Out Laughing (LOL) comedy event proved laughter can make a difference, raising more than $60,000 towards the battle to end cancer. More than 500 women, and a few supportive men, attended the event Friday night (May 10) at the OE Banquet Hall, which supported the Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women's Cancers and The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, which both benefit The Campbell Family Institute at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Proceeds also went towards Tour for Kids, which raises funds for children's cancer camps and family support programs, and Wellspring Halton-Peel. Guests sported fluorescent pink or red wigs, pink boas and elaborate costumes for the signature event. For those who missed the comedy event but still want to support the cause, there's still a chance to join the Ladies Out Laughing team and register for The Weekend to End Women's Cancers (Sept. 7-8) at www. endcancer.ca or sponsor one of the participants. The comedy event featured award-winning comedian Laurie Elliot, along with newcomer Terry McGurrin and Trevor Boris, as well as speakers Karen Adams from the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and Ron Mitchell from the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation. LOL was created in 2008 by friends Chris Reidy and Deirdre Thomas as a way to raise money for their own participation in The Weekend to End Breast Cancer (the event's former name).
