Study commencement and open house Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study Burnhamthorpe Road Character Study June 25, 2013 -- 7 p.m. Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, 3070 Neyagawa Boulevard Community Room 1 Your input is important! The Town of Oakville appreciates your feedback and ideas and we encourage you to get involved. At the open house, you have an opportunity to learn about this study -- what area it covers, why it is being done, concerns being addressed and a look at opportunities. We will also ask you for your input on what recommendations you might have for the study area. The project study team will be available to answer your questions and take your comments. A second open house will be held in the fall for final public input. Burnhamthorpe Road is currently designated as a regional arterial road under the jurisdiction of Halton Region. However, a new roadway (north Oakville transportation corridor) is being built just north of Burhamthorpe Road, and is expected to address future east-west travel demands in this area, replacing the regional road function of Burnhamthorpe Road. This study, which includes a Class Environmental Assessment (EA), will address the current Burhamthorpe Road and develop a new road design for the section between Ninth Line and Sixteen Mile Creek to better serve the needs of the north Oakville community. This project will support the objectives of the North Oakville Secondary Plan, which envisions a vibrant, mixed-use community that promotes sustainable modes of transportation. The study will be carried out in accordance with the planning and design process for Schedule "C" projects as outlined in the October 2000 Municipal Class EA document, as amended in 2007 and 2011. This process will involve four general phases: 1. Identify the problem or opportunity 2. Identify all reasonable alternatives to the undertaking and determine the preferred solution 3. Examine alternative road designs and select a preferred design 4. Document the planning, design and consultation process in an Environmental Study Report For the most current information about this study, including meeting dates please email burnhamthorpe@oakville.ca to be added to our mailing list.
