continued from p.1 One victim was shot in the face, but not seriously injured. Others were struck in the buttocks, knees and arms. A nearby business also had its window damaged by a stray pellet. After the shooting, police said the vehicle drove off, but returned a short time later. Police were called and a suspect arrested. Further investigation led to the recovery of a BB gun at a nearby home. No suspected link in cases The 15 year old, who cannot be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with failing to comply with an undertaking, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, mischief under $5,000, and four counts of assault with a weapon. At this time police said they do not believe this incident is connected to two other pellet gun shootings, which occurred last month in the Pilgrims Way and Windrush Drive area and the Old Carriage Way and Monks Passage area. Shining a light on elder abuse in Halton The Halton Elder Abuse Network will partner with the Halton Regional Police Service Thursday to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). The two organizations will hold events throughout the region with several retirement homes, long-term care facilities, adult day programs and seniors' centres participating by having Elder Abuse Awareness displays, refreshments, barbecues, and special `flash mobs'. Those involved will be wearing purple, the colour used to signify WEAAD. Some students in Halton will also be participating by holding a school Spirit Day and wearing purple. Police said elder abuse is a serious and growing problem. Ontario is home to 1.5 million seniors and research indicates currently four to 10 per cent (60,000 to 150,000) of them have experienced or are experiencing abuse of some kind. The numbers may be higher as police say some seniors who are abused may not wish to report the incident because of a sense of shame or because they do not want to get the loved one who is abusing them in trouble. The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization launched WEAAD on June 15, 2006. 3 | Wednesday, June 12, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com For more news, visit www.oakvillebeaver.com inside today's Editorial Sports Beaver www.insideHALTON.com 6 18 Artscene Classified 17 21 Sport Chek, Onward Manufacturing, Athletic Locker, Real Estate, United Postal Service, Atmosphere, Rona, National Sports, Bouclair, Listen UP Canada, Mark's Work Wearhouse, Sears, City Parent, Home Depot, Golf Town THE PROBLEM WITH INVESTMENT FEES DATES Wed, June 12th 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, 7:00 pm Thurs, June 13th 10:00 am, 2:00 pm Fri, June 14th 10:00 am, 2:00 pm SEMINAR LOCATION *All flyers not necessarily delivered to all homes For home delivery & customer service call 905-631-6095, 5300 Harvester Rd., Burlington New subscriptions call 905-631-6095 or subscribe online @ www.oakvillebeaver.com Let's Play Bingo!
