Celebrating 10 years First Down Syndrome Buddy Walk Saturday The Halton Down Syndrome Association and Town of Milton firefighters are teaming up for the inaugural Buddy Walk at Victoria Park in Milton on Saturday, June 22. Firefighters are set to join those with Down Syndrome and their families to raise funds and awareness for the Halton Down Syndrome Association. Among the organizers of this event -- which runs from 10 a.m.3 p.m. and coincides with similar ones across the country -- is Allan McNeill, who was named a National Down Syndrome HERO and awarded $500. McNeill donated all of the money to the Buddy Walk. "I cannot believe that there are so many people who are coming to walk with us," said McNeill, referring to the fact that more than 400 people have already signed up to participate and that more than $30,000 has been committed in pledges -- three times what was originally hoped for. "Some people say that I am a hero, but to me everyone walking and helping us is a hero too," he said. A barbecue will follow the walk, while a family carnival will also be part of the event.
