This year, the CMC has awarded approximately $45,000 in total scholarships to the top scorers of the competition, to help them further their musical education. The national final, running from June 21 to July 2 in Sherbrooke, featured 243 competitors aged seven to 30. Over the course of three rounds of competition (regional, provincial, national), the CMC has awarded $100,000 in scholarship money. "I participated in many competitions in my youth, including the Canadian Music Competition, both as a soloist and chamber musician with violinist Chantal Juillet -- who, like me, is from Sherbrooke -- and these experiences have greatly helped me, especially in preparing for international competitions, for auditions and for my career." Students at King's Christian Collegiate will be able to take a workshop at the school to get their professional certification in stage combat from Fight Directors Canada. The organization's new level of certification is offered to youths aged 14-17 -- previously members had to be aged 18 to join.
