Celebrating Dog Guides this week Canoe club hosts open house Sunday The Oakville-based Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is celebrating International Assistance Dog Week (IADW). It's offering free dog advice from its trainers through its Facebook and Twitter accounts at www.facebook.com/LFCDogGuides and @ LFCDogGuides, respectively, as well as taking to the streets with a small parade of Dog Guides in training -- the parade starts from the 152 Wilson St. headquarters at 12:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 8) and continues down Lakeshore Road, through downtown Oakville to Allan Street and then back. IADW, which runs Aug. 4-10, is a celebration of service dogs and the ways they help individuals decrease their disability-related challenges. It was founded by Marcie Davis, who has been a paraplegic for more than 35 years and is CEO of the U.S.-based consulting firm Davis Innovations. The Lions Foundation of Canada has celebrated IADW for the last three years, hosting a variety of events.
