Sports Briefs The victory finished an undefeated run through the tournament for the Canadians, who outscored the opposition 19-6 in five games. Westlake opened the scoring 5:06 into the game, then gave Canada a 3-0 lead with a power-play marker early in the second period. Canada outshot Norway 26-4 in the game, including 20-1 Greg Westlake over the final two periods. The Four Nations Tournament was a test event for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, which will be held in Sochi next March. Golfer sixth at senior men's championship Local resident Larry Cooper finished tied for sixth at the Canadian Men's Senior Championship golf tournament that concluded Friday at The Briars Golf Club in Sutton West, Ont. Cooper carded scores of 73, 72, 69 and 70 in his four rounds on the par-71 course, finishing at even par. Calgary resident David Schultz won the tournament with a score of 6-under. Schultz birdied the final hole to edge defending champion Chip Lutz (Reading, Pa.) by one shot and earn an exemption into the 2013 USGA Senior Amateur Championship. Lars Melander, the other Oakville resident in the tournament, missed the cut by two strokes after posting scores of 75 and 81 in the first two rounds. A 5-2 victory Sunday over Vaughan clinched Baseball Ontario gold for the Oakville A's minor peewee AA team. | photo submitted Minor peewee A's win Ontario baseball title The Oakville A's won the Baseball Ontario provincial minor peewee championship Sunday in Oshawa, going undefeated in the double-elimination tournament. Oakville's minor peewee AA squad clinched the title with a 5-2 victory over Vaughan in the final. Grayden Stauffer pitched a complete game to earn championship game MVP honours, and the A's scored three runs in the top of the seventh and final inning to break a 2-2 deadlock. Oakville also got a strong effort from its starting pitcher in the semifinal. Ryan Matsuba was named game MVP after going 6 2/3 innings in an 8-2 rout of Chatham. The A's outscored their opponents 52-24 in their five games at provincials, which also featured teams from Chatham, Vaughan, Barrie, Hamilton, Toronto, Guelph, Clarington, Kitchener, St. Catharines, London and Oshawa. Oakville finished the campaign with an overall record of 4311. Coaches attributed the team's success to contributions from every player on the roster, exceptional pitching and defence, and a relentless offence. Other members of the team are Jonathan Bodner, Chris Vernon, Ross Peaker, Joe Kruse, Riley Keenan, Zachary Marriott, Cameron Berczi and Josh Wood. Kevin Kruse is the team`s head coach, with Sean Marriott, Peter Berczi, Joshua Cipolla and Ryan Wood rounding out the staff. Oakville outscored its opponents at provincials by an average of seven runs per game, including a 13-6 romp over Topham Park in the final. Each Angels player reached base safely at least once in Oakville's 20-hit attack as the Angels overcame an early 4-0 deficit. Jacy Barratt-Bowering was the MVP in the final. Earlier in the tournament, Oakville beat Topham Park 12-2, Sydenham 10-4 and Whitby 12-9 in round-robin play, clubbed Martingrove 13-2 in the quarter-finals and downed Erindale 14-10 in the semifinals. Other members of the team, which won 12 of its last 14 games of the season, are Adria Wale, Ashley Sabean, Emily Barrieau, Grace Kumagai, Hannah Wieler, Jenny Wale, Jessie Rendl, Nicole Roth, Rebecca Rayner, Sarah Barnett, Stephanie Birtles and Steph Hughes. Coaches are Melisa Gaetani, Larry Snow and Martin Barratt-Rutledge.
