www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, September 5, 2013 | 18 Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Sept. 22 at Coronation Tens of thousands of Canadians will be out on the nation's shores to clean them up this month and Oakville residents can do their part too. The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, organized by Loblaw Companies Limited, is Sept. 21-29. This year also marks the 20th anniversary so there will be 20 special shoreline cleanup events across the country, including at Oakville's Coronation Park, 1426 Lakeshore Rd. W., on Sunday, Sept. 22. The event is at 2 p.m. with opening remarks, followed by a cleanup team photo. The cleanup begins at 2:30 p.m. One hour later, the group will sort and weigh the waste collected. Results will be announced at 4 p.m. The local anniversary celebration will feature prizes, refreshments, a water station, light snacks and a certi cate of participation for each person. All cleanup supplies will be provided. Local site co-ordinators are Jack, Julia and Emma Mogus. Change By YOUth will also be there. Last year across Canada, participants removed 136,035 kilograms of litter from 3,102 kilometres of shoreline. The top three items found last year were cigarettes and cigarette lters, food wrappers and containers, and plastic bags. The cleanup is a conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium and World Wildlife Fund. Pre-registration for the event is required at http://goo.gl/xwIu9Z.
