As a result, it is now looking at quick-fixes as a resolution. This boundary review was supposed to be a 10-year plan, but has done very little to alleviate over-capacity in all French Immersion, English and dual-track schools in this ward. Quick fixes are not the answer; Heritage Glen's current enrolment is 687 students, when you projected 633. It now has three portables on site, as a result of this, our children have less room to play at recess and have lost a basketball court. We have also lost the information technology (IT) suite and woodwork room. How does this not have an impact of how the curriculum is now taught and supported within our school and the quality of education for our children? At recess, our increased number of children now have less room to play. There is very little space to park near the school and because of increased flow of traffic and buses, the school is very busy at drop-off and pick-up times. With these constraints, the HDSB plans to enroll even more children into our school, which surely will further impact all these problems? The HDSB needs to look at the bigger picture, it clearly cannot be about numbers on paper, as it has got this so wrong. Its final decisions and recommendations will be made on Nov. 20 (today) and this will affect all communities, families and the standard of education for all children within their jurisdiction. Every parent needs to be aware this is happening. I urge any one of the board of trustees to visit a school in this community and really see the impact of the decisions they are making and how we are coping with this and reconsider how the dual-track school can be implemented in a better, more balanced way.
