www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, December 5, 2013 | 32 G E T T I N G A G R I P New hospital to benefit from Oakville 10K race The Mercedes-Benz Oakville 10K will have a new charitable partner for the sixth running of the race next spring. Organizers have formed a partnership with the Oakville Hospital Foundation, with a goal of equipping a single-patient room. Eighty per cent of the rooms at the new Oakville hospital on Dundas Street will be designed for one patient in an effort to reduce risk of infection as well as provide privacy and comfort. All funds raised by the 2014 Oakville 10K -- presented by New Balance and scheduled for Sunday, April 27 -- will go towards one room, with a fundraising goal of $25,000. "This is more than just an event to us," said Oakville resident Nick Jelinek, founder and CEO of Influence Marketing and an Appleby College alumnus. "This is an opportunity to engage with the Oakville community, to get people active, and to do some good. The new partnership with the Oakville Hospital Foundation is a perfect fit -- both relevant and timely." As an incentive for the Oakville community to spread the word, the Oakville 10K will donate $10 to OHF for each race referral throughout the month of December. "The Oakville Hospital Foundation is proud to partner with the Mercedes-Benz Oakville 10K event," said Michelle Kerby, the OHF's community fundraising officer. "This event will help us raise awareness and funds for the new Oakville hospital. As the exterior of the new hospital is almost complete, it's our goal to fund the lifesaving medical equipment our hospital needs for opening day." In only five years, the Mercedes-Benz Oakville 10K has already become the largest race in Oakville and continues to grow. Next year's event will feature a 10K and 5K run/walk, The Martin Group of National Bank Financial High School Challenge, a one-kilometre junior jog for children ages 6-12, a 300-metre toddler trot for children ages 1-5, and the second annual mascot race. Maintaining the event's tradition, one lucky finisher in either the 5K or 10K race will win a one-year lease of a new 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA provided by MercedesBenz Oakville Autohaus. The grand prize winner will be determined through a random draw at the awards presentation following the event. The Abbey Park Eagles have had an even more impressive start, winning their first two contests by a combined score of 17-1.
