Santa's elves paid a surprise visit to a downtown Oakville café for Christmas I've owned a small café in downtown Oakville for many years. Last night (Sunday, Dec. 22), we closed as usual and everyone went home. When I arrived Dec. 23, I was in shock -- the gang from the Lululemon around the corner had converged on the shop. Between 7 p.m. Sunday and 4:30 a.m. Monday, unknown to me, the entire café had been repainted. New pictures had been framed and mounted on the walls, new menu boards had been handpainted, a brand new commercial coffee grinder had replaced my old beat-up version. They even fixed a leaky toilet in the ladies washroom. I'm not sure what I did to deserve this, but I am humbled by their random act of kindness. This was the letter sitting on my counter when I walked, stunned, into the cafe this morning: "Brett, we thought for a long time what we could give you for Christmas and a simple running toque wouldn't do.
