Oakville's Sixteen Mile Sports Complex will be the venue for the OMHA tournament, which begins tomorrow (Friday) morning and concludes Sunday. The Rangers are scheduled to play round-robin games tomorrow at 10 a.m. (Grey-Bruce Highlanders) and 3:30 p.m. (Markham Waxers) as well as Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (Ajax-Pickering Raiders) and 3:30 p.m. (Brampton 45's). There will be no admission charge throughout the tournament. Oakville lost the SCTA final in heartbreaking fashion Sunday in Owen Sound, dropping a 3-2 decision to Grey-Bruce in triple overtime. The Highlanders tied the game late in the third period on a power play and with their goalie on the bench for an extra attacker. Matt Luff scored both Oakville goals. The Rangers, who finished atop the SCTA regular-season standings with a 293-4 record, also fell 3-2 to Grey-Bruce during round-robin play. Oakville's wins came against the St. Catharines Falcons (6-1 and 11-1), Guelph Gryphons (14-1) and Brampton 45's (4-1). Luff recorded hat tricks against Guelph and St. Catharines, finishing the tournament with 12 goals. Blake Levarno also scored three times in the 11-1 win over the Falcons, with Colt Jaime adding his second two-goal game of the tournament. Jack Jeffers and Michael Choma both scored twice against Guelph. Ryan Takamatsu, Sean McLaren, Jackson Bales, Jake Smyth, Zack Dybowski, Brayden Sampson, Cole Buchan and Anthony Baxter also scored at least one goal for the Rangers at SCTAs. Other members of the Oakville midgets are goalies Matt Gwillam and Mario Cavaliere, defenceman Kyle McLaren and forwards Ryan Overton and Jack Degen. The Rangers are coached by Mike Daley (also the general manager of the Ontario Junior Hockey League's Oakville Blades), Rick Redshaw, Chris Wardlaw and Mike Bentivegna (also the coach of the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B league's Oakville Buzz). Other AAA championships The minor peewee AAA Rangers will also compete at the OMHA championships this weekend in Niagara. The minor peewees were finalists at last weekend's SCTA tournament. The atom AAA Rangers will play their SCTA tournament this weekend, the minor atom AAA Rangers will host SCTAs next weekend and the peewee AAA Rangers will play at SCTAs next weekend in Buffalo. The Oakville bantam MD North Stars blanked the Amherst Selects 5-0 in the final of the recent President's Cup hockey tournament in Niagara Falls, N.Y. North Stars shine bright at Niagara tourney The Oakville bantam MD North Stars rode a hat trick from Parker Crawford to a 5-0 win over the Amherst Selects in the championship game of the recent President's Cup hockey tournament in Niagara Falls, N.Y. David Riolo earned the shutout for Oakville, which posted two wins and a tie in its first three games of the competition. The North Stars doubled up the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles 6-3, downed the Lancaster Firebirds 4-1 and tied the Clarence Mustangs 4-4 to earn a spot in the finals. Other members of the North Stars are Sam Gima, Nate Bell, Mack Hunter, Nick Hulbert, Jeremy Clark, Tyler Stodulski, Brad Barrick, Josh Leibold, Matthew Neilsen, Luke Pilcher, Kyle Medd, Lucas Ulmer and Matt Gorman. Steve Bell, Ed Stodulski and Paul Gorman coach the team, and Pete Gima is the trainer. The Oakville minor peewee red Generals dominated the competition at a recent hockey tournament in Scarborough, outscoring their opponents 28-2 in four games on their way to the title. Luca Marandola captured MVP honours for the Generals, scoring 11 goals in the tournament. Adam Chocina contributed strong netminding, posting a 0.50 goalsagainst average in wins over Queensway (60), East York (10-0), Scarborough (4-1) and Queensway (8-1). The Generals also feature Kyle Yoshimochi, Keelan Wardrop, James Vann, Eric Trecroce, Daniel Rampino, Nolan Power, Jordan Petrilli, James Jackson, Lucas Hucal and Valeriy Fesenko. Blair Ceolin, Angelo Marandola and Mario Peluso coach the team, and Suzy Ceolin is the manager. Oakville curler helps U of T qualify for CIS championships Oakville's Jack Lindsay and the University of Toronto Varsity Blues will compete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) men's curling championship March 19-23 in Regina. The White Oaks grad helped U of T win its first Ontario University Athletics title since 2001 with an 8-1 win over Laurier. Toronto led 2-1 before scoring four in the fifth end and then stole two in the sixth to take a commanding lead. U of T won two close playoff matches to reach the final, edging Waterloo 6-5 in the quarter-finals and then beating Brock 7-6 in the semifinal. Lindsay, who plays vice on the Toronto rink, won an Ontario Curling Association bantam title in 2010 and played at the Ontario Winter Games.
