RIEM, Roland Hendrik It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roland Hendrik Riem, 80, of Oakville, Ontario, Canada on March 21, 2014 He lead a very full and productive life, born in Shanghai China in 1933 to a life journey that took him to Amsterdam, Vancouver, Ottawa, Wilmington Delaware, Sault Ste Marie and finally Oakville, Ontario, Canada. He earned his BSC, MSC and PHD from the University of Amsterdam, and his MBA from McMaster University. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa. He had a long and varied career as a research chemist, corporate executive, business owner, contractor and associate, having worked with Unilever, DuPont, Abitibi, Emery Industries, Medallion Plastics, Shield Corporation, Warwick International and Rona Cashway. He was husband to Bernice, granddad to Hilary, father to Justin and Andrew, brother to John, Yuquinda and Wynona, father-inlaw to Beverly and Carol and uncle to Fiona, Roland, Anthony, Edwin, Teri and their extended families. The light of his intelligence never dimmed and he always had a strong grasp and opinion on current events and trends. His thirst for knowledge, tenacity, sense of humour and love of conversation were admired by all of us who knew him. We will miss him very much.
