The fourth annual dinner dance and (See 'Competition' page C6) silent auction gala, held at the Oakville Banquet and Conference Centre, was a sold-out affair (423 tickets) held to raise funds to help send the 30 dancers who qualified to compete in the Worlds. Follow the Yellow Brick Road featured a silent auction with more than 100 items and a chance for ticket-holders to see young dancers showcase their material. According to Worlds 2002 Dance Committee member Sheilah Laffan, organizers could not have hoped for a better turn-out or more enthusiasm from the crowd. "It exceeded our wildest expecta tions," said Laffan. who explained that the total raised was still being tabulated at press time. "It was a wonderful, spec tacular event." The talented dancers travelling to the Worlds range from 10-19 years of age and will take part in both team and solo competitions at the prestigious event to be held March 22-31. According to school founder Barbara Goggin-Wade, the students are itching to get back to the Worlds after the competition was cancelled last year because of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in the United Kingdom (UK).
