Nickel's novice AAA R an g ers defeated the Welland Tigers four games to two in their opening playoff series. Although some consider their victory over the third place Tigers an upset, the Rangers view it as a reward for their efforts. The team advances to the next round of playoffs and awaits word on who will be their next opponent. Oakville opened the series with a win (already recounted in the Beaver). Welland then bounced back with the next two wins to put Oakville on the brink. Here's the recap. Oakville 3, Welland 2 (game one): already recounted in Beaver. Welland 4, Oakville 2 (game two): Welland was well deserving of their win. Scoring for the Rangers were defenseman Nathaniel Domagala and Zach Ruys. Assists went to Ricky Bota, Matthew Provost and defensemen Mike Morris and Kyle Dube. With his domi nant play, Nathaniel Domagala was selected the Kenesky Sports' Home Player of the game. Welland 4, Oakville 2 (game three): Braeden Corbeth scored both of Oakville's goals, while assists went to Brett Lee, Zach Ruys and Nathaniel Domagala. Oakville 6, Welland 5 (game four): Oakville blew a 5-3 lead in the third period but Tyler Badham saved the day in overtime, assisted by Nicholas Kashty and Kyle Dube. Also scoring for the Rangers were Matthew Provost, Brett Lee, Brent Stevenson, Kashty and Braeden Corbeth. Other assists went to Stevenson, Matthew Provost, Zach Ruys and defensemen Patrick Feric and Michael Scon. Goalie Steven Pezzente played a solid game and made key saves when called upon. Oakville 5, Welland 2 (game five): The closest Welland would get to Oakville, who led the whole way, was 21 and 3-2. Oakville goals were scored by defenseman Kyle Dube, Michael Scott, Matthew Provost, Tyler Badham and Zach Ruys. Assists went to Nicholas Kashty (2), Mike Morris. Ruys, Dube. Brett Lee, Ricky Bota and Patrick Feric. Oakville 6, Welland 3 (game six): Nicholas Kashty broke open a 3-3 tie with the eventual winner. Up until that point. Oakville had nursed three onegoal leads, only to have Welland draw even each time. Braeden Corbeth and Zach Ruys each potted a pair while Dylan Cooper added a single marker. Assists went to Bren Lee (3), Jacob Liptok, Matthew Provost, Mike Morris, Cooper and Nathaniel Domagala. Solid goaltending by Steven Pezzente pre vented any comeback chances that the visitors had and the victory gave the home side the series win.
