The Weather Network has an eye on the future -- and the world continued from p.6 "This is just the beginning for us," Morrissette said, noting Pelmorex's strength is in keeping pace with a changing market while forging ahead in innovation to meet what consumers want. "We're applying a very aggressive push to develop internationally," he said about the future of the business, explaining it has been able to export its expertise and infrastructure to leverage new business opportunities. The company is also expanding its content to include traffic conditions and is poised to expand its facility by the end of the decade. It has operated at the Bristol Circle location since 2005 after it quickly outgrew its original media centre in Mississauga. Morrissette said Pelmorex proudly calls Oakville home. It's a place where employees, who reside all across the Greater Toronto Area, gather to express their passion for weather and how it affects everyone's daily lives, he said. Meteorologist Dayna Vettese and Pelmorex Media Inc. Communications Manager Rachel Douglas describe a vibe and energy that emits from everyone when active weather hits. Knowing that people count on it to be a reliable source for weather 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Vettese said everyone pitches in, including viewers, who are often sending in pictures and information, helping the staff deliver current and up-to-date news. Douglas said public engagement has taken off more so over the last few years because of the internet and social media. Vettese, a Markham resident who has worked at The Weather Network for six years, said the staff has developed a trust with the public and the employees take that fact very seriously. "No matter what time of the day it is, someone can turn on the TV , go to our website or go to their app and we're there with weather information," she said. "There's a two-hour period in the night where we're off air, but if we have to be live we will be and we have been. I've been here at 2 a.m. when tornados were coming in from southern Ontario and we stayed through the night." Douglas added employees take pride in the work that they do -- everything from creating forecasts and predictions to live coverage 7 | Thursday, May 29, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com of major weather events. Software and product development is also created in house. "We are this interesting blend," she said. "We're a science company because of our meteorology, we're a tech company because we develop our own product and we're a media company."
