www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, June 19, 2014 | 28 Celebrity golf tourney promises to help kids smile A celebrity golf tournament this summer is hoping to make some kids smile. The Smilezone Foundation is hosting its second annual tournament and fundraiser Monday, July 14 at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club in Milton and is said to include participants by the likes of former Toronto Maple Leafs hockey player Tie Domi and Canadian rock stars Tom Cochrane and Alex Lifeson. The event will be co-emceed by Nick Kypreos of Rogers Sportsnet and Glenn Healy of Hockey Night in Canada. The Smilezone Foundation is a non-profit group that aims to put smiles on the face of children dealing with illness and other physical difficulties through the redevelopment and transformation of hospital spaces, private centres and other facilities. "Our goal is to positively impact communities across the country by making it easier for children and loved ones who are dealing with serious illnesses and other difficulties," Adam Graves, Smilezone co-founder, former National Hockey League player and Stanley Cup winner, said in a press release. "I know the difference that a simple smile can make and it's very powerful." Last year's event raised more than $200,000 for the foundation. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Oakville Hospital Foundation, which is partnering with the community to fund equipment for the new Oakville hospital, scheduled to open in December 2015. In addition to having local celebrities, professional athletes, actors and business and community leaders attend, the tournament is also open to the public with foursomes and sponsorship opportunities still available by visiting www. smilezone.com.
