www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, June 26, 2014 | 10 Damoff returns to the running in Ward 2 by Julia Le Oakville Beaver Staff The municipal election race is ramping up now that the provincial election is out of the way. Despite rumours Ward 2 Town Councillor Pam Damoff may be considering a run at the mayor's seat, she told the Oakville Beaver last Friday that after "careful weighing" of all her options over the last few months, she's seeking re-election in Ward 2. "It has been an honour and privilege to represent the residents of Ward 2 for the last four years, and I am asking for their support to continue my work on council in the next term," said Damoff, who officially entered the Ward 2 race June 13. She filed her nomination papers the day after the provincial election. "I think it's important to have strong voices on council for the next four years and I think I bring that to council," she continued. But Damoff is not without a challenge in the race for the Ward 2 Town councillor position. Also vying for the seat is Damian Burt, who filed his candidacy March 31. He has lived in Oakville for 28 years and has served on the Town's Transit Advisory Committee for about nine years. Damoff was first elected in 2010 after Pam Damoff 27 years in the financial and investment banking sector. She's active in the community, with involvement in the Oakville Santa Claus Parade, Oakville Terry Fox Run and Cycle Oakville. Nominations will continue to be accepted at the Town of Oakville clerk's department, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., until Sept. 11 during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.), and on Nomination Day, Sept. 12, between the hours of 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The term of elected office will be from Dec. 1, 2014, to Nov. 30, 2018.
