Oakville downed Burlington 7-1 in its opening game Friday, fell 12-2 to St. Thomas Friday afternoon and dumped Guelph 7-4 Saturday morning before losing to Brampton Saturday night. The A's won't know until this weekend whether they were ousted by the eventual champions. Brampton led Windsor 1-0 in the seventh inning of Monday's championship game before the game was delayed by the torrential storm that struck Burlington. The final is scheduled to be resumed this Saturday. Minor Whitecaps' rally falls one win short at all-Ontarios After staving off elimination for five consecutive games, the Oakville Whitecaps fell to the host East Nepean Eagles in the final of the Little League Ontario minor baseball championships. East Nepean defeated Oakville 10-1 in Monday's title game, a few hours after the Whitecaps stayed alive with a 6-1 victory over the Eagles. Oakville had dropped its first game of the doubleelimination tournament 1-0 to the South Ottawa Blues last Tuesday, meaning the Whitecaps could not afford another loss for the duration of the tournament. The Whitecaps ran off victories over the Timmins Lynx (20-0) Thursday, Windsor South (28-0) Friday, Kemptville Wildcats (11-4) Saturday and South Ottawa (12-0) Sunday. Oakville then handed the Eagles their first loss of the tournament before running out of gas in the rematch. Sr. B Titans bounced from OLA playoffs The Oakville Titans were eliminated from the Ontario Lacrosse Association senior B playoffs Saturday. The host Ennismore James Gang defeated the Titans 16-9 to finish off a 3-0 sweep of the league semifinal series. Luke Laszkiewicz and Todd Kozak both had hat BHYC sails to prestigious title Oakville's Bronte Harbour Yacht Club recently won its first Steerers Junior Sail Regatta Trophy in 35 years. The trophy is awarded to the best junior sail club at the Port Credit Yacht Club's annual Steerers Regatta, an event that had been dominated by Toronto's Royal Canadian Yacht Club for more than a decade. Port Credit was the only other club to win it over the past 10 years. "It was a great accomplishment for our racers, coaches and parents, rewarding their hard work since April in frigid waters," said Kevin Corcoran, rear commodore of sail and training for the small, non-profit club. "The kids, coaches and parents are amazing to work with. The pride, commitment and responsibility these young kids demonstrate is remarkable." BHYC's Harrison Bruce won his division at the Steerers meet, with Ava Snyder earning a silver, Colton Ladoceur and James Juhasz collecting bronze, and Jack Thayer finishing fourth. Bruce also recently received the Marilea McAllister Corinthian Spirit Award at the Four Sisters Regatta, also hosted by PCYC. Laszkiewicz added three assists for a six-point night, and Kozak drew a pair of helpers. Troy O'Donnell had a goal and three assists. Sean Gillies and Gage Board provided the Titans' other markers. The Titans posted a 7-9 record during the regular season, then defeated the Owen Sound North Stars 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs before facing the topseeded James Gang. Crusaders well represented at rugby nationals Twenty-one Oakville Crusaders youth players are included on the seven Ontario junior men's and women's provincial rugby teams that are competing in this week's national championships in Calgary. Ontario is fielding two women's squads (U18 and U16 Junior Storm) and five men's (U18, U18 East, U17, U16 and U16 East Junior Blues) at the six-day National Championship Festival, which began yesterday (Tuesday.) Ontario hopes to improve on last year's medal haul of two golds and one silver. Each provincial squad features 24 players, whittled down from more than 100 athletes who tried out for each side.
