"W e've been close right from the beginning -- w e had one bad gam e (an 8-2 loss in B ram pton Oct. 11) but w e had a lot o f players aw ay at national team cam ps then. All the other ones w ere close." Tania Pinelli m ade 24 saves for the Ice, nine com ing in the final period, as O akville outshot the T hunder 3026. "We had a lot energy and this was o u r first hom e gam e against them ," said Insalaco, a 23-year-old native o f Rochester, N.Y. "We cam e out strong and finished strong." Bram pton star Jayna H efford, also o f the C anadian national squad, opened the scoring m idw ay through the first period before O akville rallied for three unansw ered goals to take a 3-1 lead. H efford tallied again m id w ay through the second period. "I think w e outchanced them but they got the breaks tonight," H efford said. "It's alw ays fun to play these guys. We have a really good rivalry." A bout the only negative on the night for the Ice w as the sparse crow d in attendance. Players on both sides expressed disappointm ent w ith the lack o f support for the N W H L so far this season. "E veryone likes to play in front o f fans, especially (as som eone) on the national team ," said H efford, a 26year-old undergrad student at the U niversity o f Toronto.
