The awards recognize family members, friends, neighbours, coworkers, community volunteers, personal support workers, care co-ordinators, nurses, therapists and other health professionals who have made a difference in someone's life. Since 2010, the Mississauga Halton CCAC has honoured 395 caregiving Heroes throughout Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills, Mississauga, and South Etobicoke. "Often the ones contributing the most to our patients' care are friends, family and neighbours and they rarely see themselves as the heroes they are," Caroline Brereton, CEO of Mississauga Halton CCAC, said in a press release.
