Oakville firefighters hosting popular open house Sept. 27 The Oakville Fire Department will kick off Fire Prevention Week with its annual, and always popular, open house event. Local firefighters will host the 15th annual kickoff to Fire Prevention Week Saturday, Sept. 27. The educational and fun event is being held at the Oakville Fire Department's Training Campus, 1144 South Service Rd. W., and runs from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The day includes free activities, such as fire and rescue demonstrations and a hot dog barbecue. As is tradition, the event will also feature a teddy bear triage where children can bring their teddy bears for a checkup. There will be bucket truck rides and fire safety games. There will also be a smoke room simulator, Sparky the fire dog, inflatable air rides, antique fire truck, junior firefighter challenge, burn tower, and various safety display booths. Those who attend are encouraged to bring their refillable bottles for "fresh and free water from the water bar," stated a press release. There will be free parking and shuttle service from the Bronte GO station, 2104 Wyecroft Rd. Parking at the training campus will be reserved for those with limited mobility and/ or medical conditions.
