Ontario Cup soccer title is first for U16 players, veteran coach continued from p.36 opportunity and it happened just inside the penalty area," said Bayhawks coach Kevin Grant. "I also understand that in the heat of the moment, the referees don't see everything, and I think he missed that... Although we can yell and scream, it's done and dusted. At the end of the day, we still had a man advantage for twothirds of the game and should and could have scored, but didn't test the reserve goalie." Vagasky empathized with Burlington, a club he both played and coached for before joining the Oakville club a few years ago. "Burlington was probably unfortunate not to be given a penalty shot on the play. The field we were playing on was a football field with football lines, soccer lines, lacrosse lines and field hockey lines. Right at the point where the collision occurred, the lines all intersected," he said. "Had (the Bayhawks) been awarded a penalty shot and we got a yellow card, I could have lived with that." The Ontario Cup title is the first for the Oakville team of 1998-born players, which competed this season in the South Region Soccer League's Premier Division. It's also the first for Vagasky in more than 30 years as a player and a coach. "I think it actually meant more to me," Vagasky said. "I know you may never get another chance." Other members of the OSC U16 boys' B team, which has won 32 of its 38 overall games this season and tied four others, are Juan Zuluaga, David Kilmartin, Jonathan Keaerns, Benjamin Perrals, Jakob Laliocn, Clayton Nelson, Caleb Minchin, Ryan Haire, Mohamad Ahmad and Tim Gibson. Joe Tobak and Matthew Gera also coach the team, and Cynthia Kilmartin is the manager. Oakville and Burlington will face each other once again Saturday in the SRSL League Cup final. -- With files from Kevin Nagel, Metroland Media Group 37 | Thursday, September 18, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The Oakville Soccer Club's under-16 boys' B team won the Ontario Cup Tier 2 title Sunday in Oshawa. | photo submitted It takes 8 muscles to read this ad.
