Marking the day was a urry of election signs that popped up around town, as 43 candidates -- two more than in 2010 -- attempt to recruit voters' loyalty. Incumbent mayor Rob Burton will see the most competition since rst being elected mayor in 2006. Challenging Burton to be the Town's chief magistrate are Gordon Brennan, Mary Kennedy, John McLaughlin and Greg Warchol. In Ward 1, incumbent Ralph Robinson will campaign against Stephen Maloney for a local council seat. For the Ward 1 Town and Regional council seat, Sean O'Meara and Linda Oliver are challenging incumbent Alan Johnston. The veteran news anchor and journalist spoke of experiences and interviews during his 46-year career as the keynote speaker at the Oakville Chamber of Commerce's 60th annual Chair's Dinner Tuesday. The event, which also included a networking reception and silent auction, attracted a sold-out crowd of 450 at the Oakville Conference Centre. Mansbridge has been with CBC since 1968. He began his career in radio and then transitioned to television as a reporter for 20 years. He has been an anchor of CBC's agship nightly-news and current affairs program, The National, since 1988. "I've been a very lucky guy. I've seen a lot of changes over time. It's been an incredible opportunity for me. I've travelled the country, I've broadcast live from each province, each of the territories and I've taken The National to all of these different communities," said Mansbridge. "I've even been on an icebreaker going through the Northwest Passage broadcasting live." He said his job has also taken him around the world to every continent except for Antarctica.
