UWO fundraising for magic in the community continued from p.1 Oakville Transit buses. Team GE Water Warriors walked away with the best time of 31.22 seconds, while team Proud to be Reliance was announced as the top fundraising team for the day -- prizes were also handed out for best team spirit. The theme for this year's campaign is The Magic Behind Community, which Sean O'Brien, 2014 UWO campaign chair and president and CEO of Reliance Home Comfort, said is clearly evident in Oakville. "It's all about involvement. I've been involved in United Way for more than seven years, the last three here in Oakville, and one thing I've noticed over those years is that there's lots of magic that occurs in our communities," O'Brien told those who attended Wednesday's launch. O'Brien noted over the years, millions have been raised for the United Way and locally, the organization has impacted the lives of approximately 34,000 people -- O'Brien being one of them. He said he often uses the term "one-inthree," referring to one in three people will use services supported by the United Way. Ten years ago, O'Brien's son was born with severe kidney issues and needed a transplant at the age of 18 months. "The only way we could get him home was through an agency called Acclaim Healthcare, who came to our house for a month to take care of my son and I thought to myself, `Even I was impacted'," he said. "Whether it's your friends, your family, your neighbours, what you do here today, celebrating, donating, giving energy, time, money, resources, it's all making an impact... Oakville is truly a special place," said O'Brien. UWO's 2014 campaign goal runs until February 2015. And when we thought about the campaign for this year, we thought, `why not talk about the magic behind the community?' It's the dollars, it's the energy, it's your effort that makes that magic happen." *All flyers not necessarily delivered to all homes For home delivery & customer service call 905-631-6095, 5300 Harvester Rd., Burlington New subscriptions call 905-631-6095 or subscribe online @ www.oakvillebeaver.com Sore Feet, Sports Injury, Painful Ingrown Toenails?
