Born in Toronto, in 1925, Betty was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Bates of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Betty was a former executive secretary for the North York Board of Education. Since 2006, she has been a resident of the Oakville Senior Citizens' Residence (OSCR), in Oakville.
