A former Tibetan Buddhist nun and champion kayaker in her younger days, Oldershaw has travelled the world teach ing healing techniques to the public and health-care practi tioners. Having recently returned from living in New Zealand and Scotland, Oldershaw will also teach various visualiza tion methods, breathing styles and attitudes to approaching meditation. Over time, daily meditation practice can improve mood and health, provide a sense of well being and increase the ability to cope with stress. The course called Practical Meditation will run four Thursdays beginning July 3 at the Burlington Arts Centre, 1333 Lakeshore Road in Burlington. The sessions run from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. The cost is S50 for four weeks or $15 per session. Pre-booking and payment is required. Scientists at the University of Wisconsin announced last month that the left prefrontal lobes of practising Buddhists are exceptionally active. This part of the brain, which is associated with good moods and positive emotions, plays a major role in foresight, planning and self-control. "These sessions are designed for people with busy lives. People who have no interest in becoming Buddhist can still benefit from some of their techniques," said Oldershaw. A donation from the course will support the W omen's Information and Support Centre at Hopedale Mall. True Life Chiropractic on Lakeshore Road in Bronte has offered to assist with coordination. To register, call 905-465-2210. Oldershaw held a healing course two years ago, for the Women's Centre, attended by more than 300 people. artistic excellence' T h e O ak ville B c a d e m y > Presenting!
